The Sexton’s job is to take care of the grounds and buildings of our church campus. This role currently is 25 hours/week.
The sexton should be able to lift 50 pounds as well as be able to climb ladders. They should have some flexibility with their hours to address emergencies and tasks like snow removal.
Duties include:
The Sexton’s direct supervisor is the Head of Staff (Pastor) in consultation with the Facilities Management Committee of Session.
The Personnel Committee is to review the Sexton’s performance annually after receiving a written review from the Head of Staff.
The Sexton receives 2 weeks off and federal holidays as designated by the Personnel Committee.

The sexton should be able to lift 50 pounds as well as be able to climb ladders. They should have some flexibility with their hours to address emergencies and tasks like snow removal.
Duties include:
- Cleaning the interior of the buildings as well as the entrances and walkways setting up for programs and events held in the buildings, tearing down same to make way for the next set up. Some of these activities are required on a daily, weekly, monthly, or seasonal basis.
- Regular maintenance of the grounds by trimming shrubs and pulling weeds as well as replacing interior and exterior lightbulbs as needed.
- Clearing snow and ice and salting the entrances and sidewalks for safety around the Church House, Sanctuary and also the sidewalks in between the two buildings.
- Moving items/equipment as needed to accommodate events
- Performing handyman tasks as needed
- Attending periodic staff meetings to coordinate the calendar and the ministry of the church community.
- Taking care of specific tasks as required for the ministry of the church community.

Daily Routine
- Lock and unlock buildings and rooms as necessary to maintain ongoing operations and a secure environment.
- Turn on appropriate lights depending upon the daily schedule
- Clean bathrooms and kitchen surfaces
- Check garbage receptacles and empty needed
- Perform any set ups and take downs for the day
- Friday - Sanctuary ; (this is to ensure the building is ready for Sunday service)
- vacuum all carpets, dust, mop floors, clean and restock bathrooms, clean kitchen, empty garbage, wipe down frequently touched surfaces (ex doors, knobs and handles).
- Entrances both inside and outside need to be kept clean. Including sweeping area, removing dust/cobwebs from surfaces and eves, cleaning doors and windows
- Shake out all entryway mats
- Clean and vacuum pew cushions as needed
- Clean Sunday School area upstairs: vacuuming, mopping, dusting, wiping down tables and frequently touched surfaces
- Fellowship Hall –
- Clean Fellowship Hall bathrooms: toilets, sinks, floors, mirrors, and frequently touched surfaces. Empty all garbage receptacles. Fill toilet paper, paper towel and soap dispensers as needed.
- Clean Kitchen: counters, floors, appliances, and frequently touched surfaces. Fill paper towel soap dispensers as needed. Empty all garbage receptacles
- vacuum all carpets
- mop all hard surface floors
- Entrances both inside and outside need to be kept clean. Including sweeping area, removing dust/cobwebs from surfaces and eves, cleaning doors and windows
- Shake out all entryway mats
- Weed and trim plantings around the building
- Walkways cleaned
- Garbage cans need to be cleaned out. Tops of cans wiped down
- Office needs to be vacuumed and mopped and desks wiped down.
- Garbage taken to curb Monday and Thursday, and then cans brought back in Tuesday and Friday. Recycling organized for pick up by the town.
- Perform minor repairs (as needed), including but not limited to painting, masonry, simple electrical, plumbing and immediate temporary repairs in an emergency.
- Maintain and change light bulbs throughout the church campus indoors and out
- Clean and dust the radiator covers
- Windowsills and glass in cabinets need to be cleaned.
- Clean Benches at the front entrance to Church House.
- (Dust/Clean) All the sprinkler pipes.
- Clean back exit of the Sunday School wing
- Keep hallways and means of egress cleared
- Dust all bookshelves
- Clean windows inside
- Order paper, cleaning supplies, and other basic items for cleaning and maintaining the facilities (through the office manager)
- Floors need to be stripped and waxed quarterly. Scuff marks addressed asap
- Wall mount air conditioners Units wiped down.
- Straighten up garbage space
- Vacuum curtains
- Maintain exterior light timers for the Church House as needed
- Clean all carpets
- Clean window exteriors
- Clean cushions on chairs
